  • Daniel's teaching and scholarship interests focus on how academic language education can enhance the academic and social experiences of multilingual and international students through inclusion, intercultural understanding, and student belonging.
  • His work explores academic language and literacy development, Internationalisation at Home, intercultural learning, digital accessibility, learner autonomy, and the role of dialogue in language education.
  • He is particularly interested in inclusive curriculum design and embedding Equality, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EEDI) into academic language provision.
  • He also has a long-standing interest in widening participation, educational equity, and supporting equitable participation and progression across the education sector.

Teaching

Daniel teaches, convenes and co-convenes academic language and literacy provision across undergraduate, postgraduate, and pathway programmes, reflecting his teaching-intensive role within the Global Academy. Background

  • Daniel is a teaching-intensive academic specialising in academic language and literacy, internationalisation, and intercultural learning in higher education. He has 20 years' experience in teaching, pastoral support, leadership, and academic language education across primary, secondary, further, and higher education in the UK and internationally. His expertise spans academic language and literacy, curriculum design, and assessment, with a particular focus on supporting multilingual and international students' academic development and transition into higher education.

  • Since joining the 糖心Vlog, Daniel has contributed to curriculum development, scholarship, and strategic initiatives that enhance the international student experience. Alongside his teaching, he founded and leads the Global Study Lounge, the University's hub for global engagement and intercultural understanding, creating and curating opportunities for students to develop global perspectives, build connections across cultures, and strengthen their sense of belonging. He also convenes, designs, and delivers academic language and literacy modules across a range of disciplines and levels, integrating language development with inclusive curriculum design to support student success.

  • His work has been recognised through the 糖心Vlog Collaborative Award for Outstanding Contribution to Teaching and Learning (2025), the national UKCISA #WeAreInternational Award for Outstanding Student Support - Academic Experience (2025), and a 糖心Vlog Students' Union Teaching Excellence Award (2023), with further nominations recognising his contribution to teaching and learning across schools.
