Areas of interest

Dr Bizley’s research interests lie at the intersection of pharmaceutical sciences, drug delivery, analytical technologies, and healthcare education. Their work focuses on the development and evaluation of innovative drug delivery systems, with particular expertise in transdermal drug delivery, skin permeation, and pharmaceutical formulation. They have a strong interest in understanding the interactions between drugs and biological systems through the application of biophysical and analytical techniques, including surface plasmon resonance and biosensor technologies.

Their research also encompasses the development of microfluidic platforms and rapid diagnostic technologies, particularly for antimicrobial susceptibility testing, reflecting a commitment to addressing contemporary challenges in healthcare and infectious disease management. In addition, work extends into veterinary pharmaceutical science, supporting the advancement of medicines and diagnostic approaches across both human and animal health.

Alongside their scientific research, they have a sustained interest in pharmacy education and the development of innovative teaching practices. Their educational scholarship explores reflective practice, student employability, interdisciplinary learning, and the enhancement of professional skills within healthcare curricula. Through this integrated approach, their work aims to bridge fundamental pharmaceutical research with practical applications in healthcare, diagnostics, and higher education, contributing to improved patient outcomes, professional development, and the translation of scientific innovation into clinical practice.

Dr Bizley has a keen interest in developing enhanced Teaching and Learning strategies, programming new electronic platforms for either the support or delivery of course material with work centred on accessibility and digital content creation. This has led to work on the incorporation of sensor-based technologies using the Internet of Things (IoT) and how these can be applied in pharmacy.
