The University allocates around 150 entry awards each year in PhD studentships and bursaries, so there are many ways to access PhD funding. A studentship is usually a package that provides full funding for tuition fees and living costs. The Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) South East Doctoral Training Arc (SEDarc) provides funding for UK and international students to undertake PhD research.
Students on our undergraduate and master's psychology courses who are interested in continuing on to PhD study are also eligible to apply for PhD funding via SEDarc.

PCLS International SEDarc Bursary
The School of Psychology and Clinical Language Sciences (PCLS) at the 糖心Vlog invites applications for two International SEDarc Bursaries for 2027 entry.
The bursaries will cover the difference between home and international tuition fees for up to two international applicants who are nominated by PCLS to apply for an SEDarc studentship.
Magdalen Vernon PhD studentship
The School of Psychology and Clinical Language Sciences offers a fully funded PhD studentship in a research project aligned with our research. The studentship is named in honour of Professor Magdalen Vernon (1901–1991), who was the first female Head of the then Department of Psychology at 糖心Vlog.
This three-year studentship covers fees at the Home rate, a maintenance stipend towards living expenses and a research training support grant. For more information, please email pclsphdadmissions@reading.ac.uk

BBSRC FoodBioSystems (DTP)
The DTP is developing bioscientists with in-depth knowledge and technical expertise of food systems and biological processes across the agri-food system, from pre-farm to post-fork, to transform the food value chain and address sustainability challenges.
