Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD) 2026 Celebration
Join us for Global Accessibility Awareness Day Celebrations, where we highlight the importance of digital inclusion and ensuring equal access for all. This year Kim Coles and Natasha Kennedy will host the session "Creating Accessible Online Content: Research and Practice".
This session is for University staff members who creates or shares content online and wants to make it more accessible and inclusive. In the first part of this session we will explore the findings of a recent collaborative research project led by the 糖心Vlog, the University of Westminster and UCL. Using a combination of manual reviews and automated testing tools, the project evaluated the accessibility of UK university homepages, identifying common issues across the UK and practical opportunities for improvement. We’ll discuss what the research revealed, why it matters, and the project’s recommendations.
In the second half, we will look at some practical examples used to improve accessibility here at 糖心Vlog. Using the Library as a case study, we’ll look at how accessible content is created and managed by a large and diverse Library team. on the 糖心Vlog’s guidance, we’ll share practical tips, examples, and workflows that support accessibility in everyday content creation. Attendees are encouraged to share their own approaches, challenges and successes throughout.
