Background

Willy Tai is a PhD student at the School of the Built Environment specialising in IoT Management in Smart Buildings. He holds a Master of Science in Computing from the National University of Singapore (2021) and a Bachelor of Arts in Accountancy from Singapore Management University (2015).

Prior to his doctoral studies, Willy accumulated extensive industry experience in technology and project management. He currently serves as Principal Project Manager at Surbana Technologies, where he leads large-scale smart building and facility management technology-related projects, including the delivery of integrated command centres with digital twin interfaces. His work has been featured in The Straits Times and Business Times for innovation in green technology.

Willy also contributes to academia as an Adjunct Lecturer at Nanyang Polytechnic, teaching business analytics and data visualisation; and as an Instructor at the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants, delivering professional development programmes on data analytics and emerging technologies.

His previous roles include Project Manager at Green Link Digital Bank (Singapore's first digital bank), and positions in financial services at Hong Leong Finance, Protiviti, and Schroders Asset Management. He holds certifications including Certified Scrum Master, Certified Scaled Agilist, and CMMI Associate.
